Been a barber all my life. I tried this several years ago and had minimal success. Did exactly as you did. The blades won’t stay as sharp for as long as a new blade..Clipper blade oil is actually mineral oil-which is way cheaper that named blade lube.

I’m not a blade grinder, but I am a professional grinder. I would reccomends you use scotch brite to deburr it, and give it a better finish. Sandpaper causes a more raw finish, and this is bad because the blades sit on each other and basically ossilates on the surface you just grooved out with sandpaper.

Even 220 seems very coarse. Why not a higher grit?

When I was a teenager in the 70s, I learned this from my barber. He used 200 and 400 grit on a piece of plywood. I still have my dad’s old clippers I cut his hair with.

  31. Ken W on June 4, 2021 at 1:36 am

I’m a subscriber to your videos.
I found and bought the HYDE block that’s in your videos, on Amazon.com. But Blade Boost is no longer available, except on a single website that I won’t list by name, for $22.00 a bottle with postage and handling. Do you know of a cheaper substitute for it, such as a product that I found on Amazon.com, that’s called Blade Wash? Do you think that this will work too, and do you know of other cheaper substitutes too that might work instead of Blade Boost?
