Dallas, TX – Angela Hicks from Salons at Hi Line in downtown. I knew I was going to a great place when, after looking her up on three different websites, I only found one 4 star review – everything else is 5 stars! She’s super sweet, is CONSTANTLY investing in educating herself on everything curly, and I swear I need to go into my appointment with a notebook to be able to take in everything she teaches me! She does book about 3ish months in advance, but she’s every bit worth the wait!!!

Thank you for letting people know its illogical to get your hair cut when straightened. There are too many stylists who think that’s the ONLY way to see split ends and you end up with a foot of hair gone. 😒😒😒😔😔

I live in Upstate SC, have been to numerous stylists that say they know how to cut curly hair, all lies. I might as well have put my head under a lawnmower, that’s how bad the cuts were. It’s sad that there are so so many bad hairstylists there are out there, especially when they tell you the know how to cut curly hair & really have no clue of what they’re doing.

Are level 1 deva hair stylists good at deva cuts? I want to get a deva cut and it’ll be my first but I’m afraid that the person in my area doesn’t have the experience. Is level 1 good or should I just wait?
I had my hair like in my pic, and went to a salon for a trim and left with a horrendous frizzy mess. My curls aren’t curling any more. …. worst part, salon won’t even knowledge mistake. Can’t even hold it in a pony tail…..😢😢😢

I’ve been to a hair salon only 3 times in my life. As a child I used to get my hair cut from a gents barber and he’d always complain about my hair density. I used to get a boy cut from him till the age of 5 then my dad would cut my hair and it would always end up looking like a birds nest. Then I stopped cutting my hair it grew pretty long. I next got my big chop at 13 years of age and again my dad did it. Then for 3 years I didn’t touch it. But for my farewell at school I went to salon to get my hair straightend. This was when I was living in Saudi Arabia. The stylist washed my hair straightend it using a flat iron and leveled it. As far as I remember she tried to be as gentle as she could with my Hair while detangling it and she looked really apologetic when my hair would get pulled. I didn’t feel bad because I knew she was being as patient as she could. And I was used to seeing my mom play tug of war with my hair each day. I knew it could get frustrating. Then I moved to India and for the cultural festival at my college my friends asked me to get my hair straightend again. I obliged. I went to a hair salon that was in the premises of my college. This is where I realised what injustice I was doing with my hair. The hair stylist was an absolute butcher. She pulled my hair in ways no one ever had. I was controlling my tears of pain. She had no respect for my hair and it was evident on her face. She somehow did manage to get her job done and I lost lots of hair that day. I swore to never get my hair staightend ever again. Fast forward to my cousin sisters marriage. All the bride’s maids were going to the salon to get hair styled. The brides sister went for hair straightening and asked me to do the same but was not going to break my promise to self so I said no. But I said I’d get a hair spa done just to give her company as she got her hair straightend. The same scenario played again. But this stylist tried to not show her frustration but she did pull a little too hard and kept shaking out her hands and messaging them as though she was doing a vigorous workout all through the detangling process. End result. My hair wasn’t any different from before the spa treatment but after a day there was lots of product build up in my hair. I wanted to cry. Since then I’ve been avoiding hair salons like the plague.

Sooooo… I have hair that IS curly, but it doesn’t really have shrinkage, so should I go to someone who does dry cuts?! I have type 2b/3b so it is starting to have the curls that aren’t wavy but still…. almost no shrinkage

ARDMORE, PA (~30 min from PHILADELPHIA and 10 min from Villanova University).
I went to Rae & Co salon that is a curly salon (although they will do regular cuts too). You can check out their Insta and each pic has the stylist credited. You can see their body of work before choosing a stylist. I got a regular devacut from Justice. Highly recommend her. Will answer all your questions or if your shy (like me) she will just give you lots of info. Her price was $120.
PENZANCE, Cornwall, UK. She is based at the The Hair & Nail Lounge in Penzance but you can find Amy’s work at Curls by Crossley on Facebook. I went for a reshape in preparation to grow my hair long again. She was thorough in the cutting of my hair and the education and information she provided me with. She has recently been trained by Lorraine Massey and now charges £45 for a cut and wash. She uses innersence products. I can highly recommend her.

I love this! I just got my 1st curly cut this year and I’ve had curly hair for 35 years, same middle part! Lol but now I love my curls even more now that I found someone here in Michigan (soooo difficult) to do a real curly cut. My curls now have shape and volume, they’re healthy and bouncy and I’m honestly not even upset about my loss of length. So thanks Bianca and our awesome curl community! Let’s stick together
