πΊπΈ "Overcome" – A Barbers Journey from Navy to True North Barber Shop | Phoenix Arizona
Phoenix Barber and Owner of True North Barber Shop, Raymond DeCandia, shares with us his shop and personal journey to becoming a successful barber. Rayβs path was difficult with many struggles along the way that he had to overcome.
His journey from serving in the US Navy to attending cosmetology school where he felt like a fish out of water. From barber college, which was what he truly wanted to do all along, and subsequently getting fired. Ray says it sounds clichΓ©, but the advice he shares is βdonβt give up!β
True North Barber Shop was opened in 2017 in the downtown Phoenix Arts District. Ray shows us around his shop which includes a painting by El MoisΓ©s; a vintage cigarette machine repurposed into an art dispenser; an American flag from the USS Missouri; hanging on the side of the lockers is a portrait of Alice Cooper created by Rayβs fiancΓ©e; and youβll also get a glimpse of a legendary jackalope!

Nice video Harry!! Hopefully you can start making videos again soon been watching all old stuff but still great from Upland, California. πΊπΈ
Cool story! Liked how he came to where he is now.
It sounds more like his comfort level and clicking with coworkers. He had to have skills just finding his own niche. Good luck seems like decent guy. Dee from Ohio . Your better than sleeping pills . Going you on utube last year. Keep up the good work.
Iβve learned that as a shop owner itβs your responsibility to hire for character and to teach skills as time goes. Glad everything worked out for him in the end.
Awesome barber shop Ray deCandia love what he has done in his life with his personal journey with work and life learning his trade thank you harry and mystery camera woman for all the great videos you put out on youtube
If you flipped his hands around the other way his knuckles would say "COME OVER".
Iβm curious. Once a person becomes a barber are they required to cover themselves in tattoos?
In Malaysia almost 2 a.m. and I’m watching your video with full volume.ππ€«π
Another magnificent video!!! keep up the magnificent work you do can’t wait until i can watch your next video
I want to see Harry get a flat top
Did you end up stranded in the United States or was it by choice?
Thankyou for another video Harry πβ€
Hey harry I love videos, just curious what got you into using haircuts as a way to depict different people in different countries and states?
Love watching these videos! Keep up the good work Harry.
Live is not easy for everybody, but it depends how we are able to manage our problemsπ
I know the storyline of this man. Because I’ve experienced the same thing myself. Even when you make mistakes and others give up on you as long as you don’t give up on yourself you will be successful. Working in construction I’ve been in multiple shops, multiple trades with guys that are not interested in helping you develop your skills. Sometimes the guys that are the hardest on you are the best teachers not because they care but because you learn to be better at whatever it is you do.

I was stuck between doing what I like which is barbering and the career that I’ve been in. I prayed that God would give me a sign and I watched this video and seen your names Ray which is my name too. Great interview and God bless you brother!
We will…Over Come. So true of this time we live in Harry. Stay strong everyone.
Heh I love your videos they always help me go to sleep at night

Excellent video H. Keep safe all.
Nice to see Genuine People doing something they love. Nothing better in life IMO.
There is no better education then the school of hard knocks and life experiences. If one can learn from this it’ll lead them to a world of satisfaction and enjoyment. Thanks for sharing this video Harry, a great one to view.
I love his attitude of teaching people. I wish more bosses had that mentality
This shop is so cool. Love the old vibe and vending machine
Great and honest interview, over come, never give up, a lesson for us allπ€βοΈ
Very cool shop…I like a barbershop with different personalities and approaches to haircutting…
Ray is the man, he has been cutting my hair since i moved to Arizona 5 years ago and i donβt see that changing anytime soon. Awesome seeing an interview like this!
Nice old school barbershop, it takes you back to the 60’S. And It looks more like an European barbershop also.
I appreciate his honesty. Most of the time you hear people’s success stories but the failure is minimized or removed entirely. It’s pretty inspiring to hear his story.
His story is very inspirational. Barbering is definitely a journey, and there some shop that would break you down and get you unmotivated to keep learning the craft. If anyone going through the same struggle, don’t give up and try going to a different shop where you’ll be more appreciated.
Come to indonesia harry
Does he give u a trim

A vital Navy motto: "Never Give Up The Ship"
What a great guy!!! Wish him the best!!!!
High Class Harry is the man. Always nice to see him. Robert from Canada
Boris the bored π
Great episode.. So interesting..
Nice tour of this Shop Harry looking forward to seeing the video of your cut and perhaps more real soon
Love it but on a side note, the quality of the video or what I see is quite poor, a lot of nois, even the filter and coloring is a bit too much. i am missing blacks and contrast. You do not need to do this, its very yellow … I think its unnecessary. Just too much … but great video oberall. Almost a documentary. This could be a start of something … story about barbers, their lives … a secon YT channel maybe? ππ»
yeah! I was looking forward to your movie : ) from Japan!
You should visit Alberto Olmeda, the fire and sword barber!
Harry!! Nice video, i hope you’ll come to have an haircut/shave by an old man that’s even more relaxing
2:57 Bertus!
What a great man!
